DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — After deliberating for less than two hours Wednesday morning, a jury found a suspended Dauphin County judge guilty of attempted murder and aggravated assault after she shot her sleeping boyfriend in the head.
The trial for Sonya McKnight, who was accused of shooting her then-boyfriend Michael McCoy in the head on Feb. 10, 2024, resumed at 9 a.m. with jury instructions inside the Dauphin County Courthouse.
The jury found McKnight guilty on both counts. CBS 21 reporter Elise Person was in the courtroom all throughout the trial, and said deliberations lasted less than 2 hours to reach a verdict on Wednesday.
The judge set bail at $3 million dollars. McKnight was transported to the Dauphin County Prison following the trial.
McKnight's defense attorney Cory Leshner said he plans to appeal and does not agree with the jury's decision.
McKnight's sentencing hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on May 28.
