Authorities in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, are continuing their investigation into the discovery of a fetus buried in a backyard in Marietta. The fetus was found on Tuesday (March 11) after a search warrant was executed at a home on Village Square Drive. According to CBS 21 News, the investigation began when a witness reported that the mother had purchased medication online to induce an abortion after being told she was too far along for a clinic procedure.

Court documents reveal that the mother, with assistance from her own mother, attempted a medication-induced abortion. However, text messages between the witness and the mother indicated that the baby was born on May 9, 2024. The mother reportedly sent photos of the newborn to the witness, showing the baby with the umbilical cord and placenta.

The Lancaster County Coroner, Dr. Steven Diamontoni, stated that the fetus was "severely premature" and would not have survived outside the womb. The manner of death remains undetermined, and the fetus is believed to have been buried for several months.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office has declined to comment on the case. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to gather more details surrounding the incident.
