A high school student in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, was injured after being struck by a vehicle while walking to school on Tuesday morning (March 11). The incident occurred at the intersection of Williams Grove Road and South Broad Street, near Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School.
According to police, the student, a 14-year-old girl, was in a marked crosswalk when an 18-year-old male driver turned left and hit her. The student was conscious and talking when emergency responders took her to the hospital with moderate injuries.
The Mechanicsburg Area School District immediately notified the student's family and emphasized their commitment to student safety. They assured the community that they are cooperating with local authorities in the investigation and will offer counseling services to those affected by the incident.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. PennLive reported that the teen driver involved will be cited for the incident. Further details on the student's condition have not been released.
