Houlihan, Meuser Present Protecting Mushroom Farmers Act
(Washington, DC) -- Two U.S. House Members that represent parts of Berks County are joining together for Pennsylvania's mushroom farmers. Democrat Chrissy Houlahan and Republican Dan Meuser have reintroduced the Protecting Mushroom Farmers Act, which would require the USDA to conduct a study on offering federally-backed crop insurance for mushroom farms. A companion bill was presented in the U.S. Senate by Pennsylvania's John Fetterman and Dave McCormick. Houlihan said mushroom farmers face "unique threats," and called on the federal government to "step up" and ensure farms can be protected and passed down to the next generation.
