Authorities in Berks County, Pennsylvania, are urging residents to avoid drinking and driving on Super Bowl Sunday (February 9). The Exeter Township Police Department, along with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), is emphasizing the importance of sober driving. Sergeant David Bentz, of the Exeter Township Police Department, highlighted the need for responsible decision-making during the celebrations. "Super Bowl is a special night each year for our community to come together to celebrate, but we need responsible drivers on our roads," Bentz said. He advised partygoers to have a designated driver and for hosts to offer non-alcoholic drinks and food options for those who choose to stay sober.
The police warn that drunk driving can lead to severe consequences, including injuries and fatalities. They encourage both partygoers and hosts to take steps to ensure safety. Designated drivers are considered the "MVPs" of the night, as their commitment to staying sober can prevent dangerous situations. Authorities also urge all motorists to be proactive in preventing impaired driving. If a friend is intoxicated and considering driving, others should step in and ensure they have a safe way home. If anyone notices a drunk driver on the road, they should immediately call 911 to alert law enforcement.
