Dr. Benjamin Henry, the newly appointed Superintendent of the Harrisburg School District, has outlined his primary objectives for his first 100 days in office. His five-point plan focuses on improving low-performing schools and fostering relationships within the community.
Dr. Henry aims to identify the issues within the district that serve as "both barriers and opportunities" for student performance. His goal is to "reignite enthusiasm and momentum" for the Harrisburg School District's (HSD) vision, mission, and comprehensive plan.
The Harrisburg School District is committed to providing a rigorous and relevant education to all students, fostering high expectations and data-driven, standards-aligned instruction provided by committed, highly qualified teachers. The district aims to provide a culturally responsive, safe, and positive school environment to enhance, empower, and promote the value of lifelong learning for students.
Dr. Henry, who was sworn in as superintendent in November, has over two decades of experience in public schools. He previously served as the regional assistant superintendent of Polk County schools in Florida and has held positions as a special education teacher, a middle school math teacher, and a principal.
According to the Harrisburg School District's website, Dr. Henry believes in the power of listening and asking insightful questions to truly understand the narrative before embarking on any journey. His plan will allow him to assess the organization's strengths and identify growth opportunities. He aims to establish a strong network of connections and resources within the Harrisburg School District and motivate the community to recommit to the vision of becoming the nation's premier school district.
As reported by TheBurg News, Dr. Henry said, "This community is asking for something different, and I feel like I'm the leader that could really move the school district in the right direction, but I'm going to need everyone's help."
