Lancaster County Officer-Involved Shooting Deemed Homicide

The Lancaster County Coroner's office has ruled the officer-involved shooting of Andrew Ward as a homicide. The incident occurred outside the Northwest Regional Police Station in Elizabethtown on November 3rd. Ward, 39, had been arrested for DUI earlier that evening and was released to his spouse. He returned to the police station around 1:33 am to discuss his personal property.

An officer initially spoke with Ward outside the station and then requested backup. The events leading up to the shooting remain unclear, but a handgun registered to Ward was found at the scene. Ward was pronounced dead at the scene after life-saving measures were taken. According to ABC27, the Lancaster County District Attorney's office and Pennsylvania State Police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident, including conducting interviews, reviewing video footage, and examining collected evidence. The District Attorney will make a final determination on the police action once the investigation concludes.
