A 27-year-old man from New Jersey died in a box truck crash on Route 322 in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, on Monday (November 11). The man, whose identity is being withheld until next of kin is notified, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
According to the Derry Township Police Department, the box truck veered off the road, hit a message board on the shoulder, and continued onto an embankment. The truck then struck the Fiddlers Elbow Bridge abutment head-on, causing the vehicle to roll back onto the roadway. Despite life-saving measures by first responders, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash led to the closure of Route 322 at the Hummelstown interchange for most of the day, as highway engineers inspected the bridge for structural integrity and investigators completed their work.
