The city of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, is all set to host the annual Cargill Holiday Parade on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 10 a.m. The parade, which will take place on Front and 2nd Streets from Market to North, promises a festive spectacle featuring giant parade balloons, decorated floats, performances by marching bands and dance teams, and a host of characters, including Santa Claus himself.
Following the parade, attendees are invited to Strawberry Square to meet Santa and enjoy free hot chocolate and cookies, while supplies last. The winners of the marching band, dance team, and Best in Theme categories will also be announced at this location. Marching bands stand to win $500 for 1st place, $300 for 2nd place, and $200 for 3rd place. The top three dance/step/drill teams will receive $150 for first place, $100 for 2nd place, and $50 for 3rd place, along with trophies. The Best in Theme winner will receive a $100 Amazon gift card, according to Eventbrite.
The parade will be emceed by RJ Harris from News Radio WHP 580. In addition to the parade, the city will also host its inaugural tree-lighting event on Friday, November 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at City Hall, as reported by ABC27. The event will feature performances from Harrisburg Elementary School students, an indoor artist market, a free kids’ craft and snacks, an ugly sweater contest, and a visit from Santa Claus.
