The presidential campaigns of Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump held events in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, over the weekend. On Saturday, Harris's husband Doug Emhoff spoke at a rally, while Trump's running mate J.D. Vance held a town hall. On Sunday, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders rallied union workers in support of Harris. Pennsylvania, known as the Keystone State, is a crucial battleground in the upcoming election and has seen frequent visits from both campaigns over the past month.
According to CNN, the race for the White House remains tight nationwide, with both Harris and Trump focusing their efforts on key battleground states. Harris attended a church service in the Atlanta suburbs as part of her campaign’s “souls to the polls” push to turn out Black voters, while Trump visited a Pennsylvania McDonald’s and later held a town hall in the state.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that President Joe Biden returned to Pittsburgh on behalf of Harris, urging union members to vote and defeat Trump. Biden contrasted Harris and Trump, stating, “It’s about decency, it’s about honor. Trump has no character. He’s not demonstrated it. He doesn't give a damn about union workers. He views unions as getting in the way of accumulation of wealth for individuals.”
The upcoming election is expected to be closely contested, with Pennsylvania's 19 electoral votes potentially deciding the outcome. Both campaigns have planned further events in the state in the run-up to Election Day.
