Vice Presidential candidates Tim Walz and JD Vance are set to square off in their first debate at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday (October 1) night in New York City.

The 90-minute debate will be moderated by CBS Evening News anchor and managing editor Norah O'Donnell and Face the Nation moderator Margaret Brennan.

Similar to the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, there will not be a live studio audience.

The candidates will not give an opening statement. They will both get two minutes to answer each question. After that, Vance and Walz will each get one additional minute to offer a rebuttal. The candidates will get two four-minute breaks during the debate.

Unlike the previous presidential debate, the candidates' microphones will be hot the entire night, though the network can mute them if it is deemed necessary.

Walz and Vance will not be allowed to have prewritten notes or props with them, but they will be given a pen and paper to take notes.

They will each be given two minutes to deliver a closing statement at the end of the night.
