Two cookie companies are set to compete in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. New York-based Chip City Cookies recently received an investment of nearly $18 million, with plans to expand into the Pennsylvania market, possibly in Lancaster. Meanwhile, Lancaster's own Taylor Chip, a startup that has gained national attention, continues to grow locally.
Chip City Cookies, founded in 2017 by childhood friends Peter Phillips and Teddy Gailas, announced a $7.5 million Series B investment round this week, bringing the total raised to $17.5 million. The funding will enable the company to expand its brick-and-mortar locations and invest in infrastructure to strengthen its brand position in the competitive cookie segment.
On the other hand, Taylor Chip, co-founded by Sara and Doug Taylor, has been making waves in the cookie industry since 2018. The company, which began selling cookies at pop-up events, has since expanded to locations in Manheim Township and Intercourse in Lancaster County, as well as a store in York. The company is also planning to open a store in Philadelphia and is considering a location in Mechanicsburg. In addition, a new 20,000-square-foot creamery and production facility is planned for West Hempfield Township.
As these two companies prepare to compete in the same market, it's clear that the cookie business is booming in Lancaster.
