Man Charged With Stealing Semi After Traffic Stop for Seatbelt

(Reading, PA) -- A 52-year-old man from Connecticut is in the Berks County Jail for reportedly not turning in a rented semi-truck at the end of March. A state trooper discovered the rig was allegedly stolen when he pulled over Abdoul K. Conde on Interstate-78 for not wearing his seatbelt. The trooper says Conde had denied knowledge of the truck having one of its license-plate digits taped over. Officials say drivers sometimes do that to trip up license plate readers and avoid being charged for tolls.
