Congressman Formally Voices Opposition To Planned York Hydroelectric Plant
(York County, PA) -- U.S. Congressman Lloyd Smucker is going on record as opposing a hydroelectric plant planned for York County. The representative from Pennsylvania's 11th congressional district, which includes Lancaster County and most of southern York County, spoke at a news conference earlier this week to oppose the building of Cuffs Run. He says it would flood prime farmland and affect 50-area properties including three preserved farms and hundreds of acres of forest. Smucker says officials at the federal, state, and local levels are working with environmental groups to oppose the project.
