>Advocate Says Policy Makers Ignoring Children In Opioid Epidemic

(Harrisburg, PA) -- A children's health advocate is worried that kids are being left out of plans to address the opioid epidemic in the Harrisburg area. Cathleen Palm, head of The Center for Children's Justice, tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that policies don't include young children who are being exposed to opioids. State health department figures show 66-thousand children in Pennsylvania live with a parent who has a substance use disorder. Palm wants lawmakers to create a special commission dedicated to addressing the impact of the opioid crisis on children. She says it's only a matter of time before more of them suffer severe injury or death from fentanyl.
