>>Majority Of Voters Say Drugs Are A Major Problem In PA

(Dauphin County, PA) -- The opioid epidemic and the state's response to drug addiction among the top priorities for voters ahead of the November midterm. The Pennsylvania Harm Reduction Network says the state has moved from epidemic to full on public health crisis. Pennsylvania remains among the top five states for overdose deaths. Sixty-seven percent of voters in the state say drug addiction is a major problem in the state.   

>>PennDOT Looking To Hire Dozens Of CDL Drivers In District 8

(Dauphin County, PA) -- PennDOT is hosting several open houses across Central Pennsylvania to attract more employees. The department is looking to fill winter openings as well as permanent positions ahead of next year. PennDOT says it currently has about half the CDL drivers it needs on staff for winter across the region. Open houses will be held every Tuesday from noon to 4 p.m. at each of District 8's counties throughout the rest of the year. 

>>Harrisburg's Walk To End Alzheimer's This Weekend

(Harrisburg, PA) -- The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's is coming to Harrisburg. The event will take place at City Island on Saturday, October 1st. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the opening ceremonies kick off at 10 a.m. Find out more information at ALZ.org.   

>>Shippensburg University Engineering Building Named For Donors

(Shippensburg, PA) -- Shippensburg University has a new name for the school of engineering and laboratory building. The name, unveiled Tuesday, will be Milton and Doreen Morgan School of Engineering and Laboratory. The Morgans said they are excited for the opportunity the school provides for its engineering students. The new school of engineering will house computer, software development, mechanical, and civil engineering programs as well as computer science. 

  

>>Student Found With Gun On Campus In Mechanicsburg

(Mechanicsburg, PA) -- A student at Elmwood Academy is facing discipline and possibly charges after bringing a gun to school Tuesday. Mechanicsburg Area School District officials say another student notified an adult on campus that there was a weapon on campus. The student with the gun was detained and the weapon was secured. The district sent a letter to parents last night, assuring that no one was harmed or threatened and that there is a zero-tolerance policy for violence and weapons throughout the district.

>>Group Hoping To Build Tiny Houses To End Veteran Homelessness In Harrisburg 

(Harrisburg, PA) -- A group out of Harrisburg is fighting to end homelessness among local veterans. The Veterans Community Project's goal is to establish a community of more than a dozen tiny homes for vets who are down on their luck. The program has had success in other parts of the country, and now the group is focusing their efforts in Harrisburg. Land has been acquired, permits have been pulled, but the Veterans Community Project says they only have about half of the funds they need to get the project up and running. 

>>Narcan Distribution Organizers Hoping To Move To City Hall

(York, PA) -- Every fourth Tuesday of the month, officials in York distribute Narcan kits to residents. The ongoing effort is to raise awareness of the seriousness of the growing opioid epidemic in the state and to help save lives. Yesterday's event was held at a Philadelphia Street clinic, but organizers are pushing to move it outside of City Hall. The hope is to draw more attention and interest, as foot traffic is much higher in the downtown area.  

>>New Latino Outreach Program Showcasing The Midstate's Cultural Offerings

(Dauphin County, PA) -- A new local outreach program is geared toward driving Latino visitation to Dauphin County. The Visita Hershey and Harrisburg program offers mobile tours and in-person events to coincide with National Hispanic Heritage Month that runs through mid-October. Organizers are hoping to not only showcase what the Midstate has to offer as far as Latino culture, but also to connect families. The Latino Connection says Latinos account for more than 50-percent of the Pennsylvania Commonwealth's growth over the past two decades.      

>>Route 222 Accident Leaves 2 Dead, 1 Injured

(Lancaster County, PA) -- Two people are dead and one injured after an accident Tuesday afternoon on Route 222 in Lancaster County. A four-door sedan and a box truck were involved in the collision that saw two passengers ejected from the car. One died at the scene and the other at the hospital. The truck's driver escaped injury. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

>>Fetterman, Shapiro Lead In Marist Poll

(Pittsburgh, PA) --With just weeks to go before the general election, the Democratic candidates are leading the Republican candidates in statewide contests. New polling released by Marist yesterday shows Democratic Lt. Governor John Fetterman ahead of Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz 51-% to 41% in the race for U.S. Senate. In the contest for governor, Democratic State Attorney General Josh Shapiro has a wider lead over Republican State Senator Doug Mastriano at 53% to 40%. According to the poll, inflation is the top issue on the minds of voters this election cycle.

>>New State Parks Announced

(York, PA) -- Pennsylvania's newest state parks have been revealed. Governor Tom Wolf visited York on Tuesday to make the announcement that Pennsylvania is expanding its system to 124 state parks. The new parks are to be Susquehanna Riverlands in York County, Big Elk Creek in Chester County, and Vosburg Neck in Wyoming County. Wolf says his administration has established more state parks than any governor in 40 years.
