 "Hero Pay" Coming to Police Officers in Pennsylvania

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro says he wants to allow "hero pay" bonuses to help retain police officers. He says the $135 million Local Law Enforcement Support Grant Program can be funded n the recently authorized state budget. It would allow police forces in the state to grant $1,200 retention and sign-on bonuses for police officers who work in understaffed areas. The bonuses are for current in-service officers who are in good standing.

(Harrisburg, PA) -- The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue has issued a warning to business owners in to be on high alert about imposters who ask for accounting records. Revenue Secretary Dan Hassell says in a statement the imposters are using notices that include the Department of Revenue name and logo. Anyone with questions about the legitimacy of a notice from the department should use the contact information listed on the department's website: revenue.pa.gov.

>> Residents Won't Get $2,000 Checks from the State

(Harrisburg, PA) -- The Wolf administration says its disappointed that the governor's plan to pay state residents $2,000 isn't going to happen. A spokesperson for Governor Wolf says the stimulus checks were not included in the recently passed state budget that included COVID funds from the federal government. A deal between Wolf and the republican-led legislature found uses in 20 other programs for the more than two-billion-dollars in remaining COVID money.

(Harrisburg, PA) - A Pennsylvania man featured on a national TV show called "90 Day Fiancé" has now been added to the U.S. Marshals' " 15 Most Wanted " list. Michael Anthony Baltimore is wanted for assault, homicide, and parole violation charges. He's accused in the shooting death of Kendal Jerome Cook and injuring another man at the GQ Barbershop in Carlisle. The U.S. Marshals say Baltimore should be considered armed and dangerous.

>>Harrisburg's Only Area Qdoba Has Closed

(Harrisburg, PA) - The Harrisburg area's only Qdoba Mexican Grill has closed. Pennlive.com reports that the location across from the Harrisburg Mall on Paxton Road in Swatara Township has permanently shut down. Company officials reportedly haven't responded to the store's shutdown - it'd been in business almost ten years. It's speculated that the chain's franchise owners decided to go ahead and close ahead of the Interstate-83 Capital Beltway expansion project, which will uproot many businesses in the area.

>>Shelter Raises Capacity to Help Homeless During Heat Wave 

(Reading, PA) -- Officials at Reading's Opportunity House are increasing their capacity for people who are homeless during extreme heat conditions. They've issued a Code Red which will allow them to  provide shelter to people who had been sleeping outdoors or in cars. Providers say the severe weather is particularly harmful to homeless people with underlying medical conditions including heart problems, emphysema, and asthma. 

>>United Way of Lancaster County Raises Funds For Hotel Flood Victims

(Lancaster County, PA) -- The United Way of Lancaster County is asking for community support in raising money for people who were flooded out while staying at a Motel 6. United Way of Lancaster County says it's trying to raise $25,000 for the long-term residents of the motel on Route 30. They say many were already in danger of becoming homeless. The money is meant to help with daily expenses until insurance and other payments can come through. 

>>Four People Rescued After Good Samaritan Spies Row House Fire

(Reading, PA) -- Fire officials say four people are expected to be okay after they were rescued from a row house fire Tuesday morning in Reading. Emergency crews responded to the 400 block of N. 11th Street shortly after 11 a.m. The fire was spotted by a person who was driving by and called it in. Officials say that person also used a ladder to try to help the residents until firefighters got there. One resident was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Officials say the fire likely started in the kitchen.

>>Man Accused of Brandishing Gun at Bar Patrons

(Reading, PA) -- West Reading have finished their investigation of a man who allegedly tried to accost some people in a bar and also pointed a gun at patrons. They've arrested Luis Antonio Morales for the incident that happened last Monday near closing time at a bar in the 200 block of Chestnut Street. He's also accused of punching a man. Morales faces charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats and harassment among other counts.  

>>Huge New Scoreboard to be Installed at Citizens Bank Park

(Philadelphia, PA) -- The Philadelphia Phillies will soon be installing a huge, new scoreboard at Citizens Bank Park. The new video board will be 77 percent larger; big enough, team officials say, to display over 500 life-size Phillie Phanatics simultaneously. It'll be installed in time for the 2023 season. 

>>Shooter in Fountain Hill Wawa Case Sentenced

(Allentown, PA) -- The man who shot and killed another man at the Wawa in Fountain Hill last December will spend six to 15 years in prison. Prosecutors say Jarrett Hein, who is 23, shot and killed 20-year-old Travorious Gudger in a gun deal gone wrong. Hein pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and said he was sorry but also said he believed Gudger's gun might have been loaded and thought he was going to die. Hein got the minimum recommended sentence.
