ONE CRITICALLY INJURED IN AFTERNOON SHOOTING IN HARRISBURG

(Harrisburg, PA - WHP CBS-21) -- According to officials with the City of Harrisburg, one man was critically injured in a shooting in Harrisburg, Thursday afternoon. It happened around 3:00PM at Thomas and Market Streets. Officials say the man is in critical but stable condition at a local hospital. He is expected to recover, police say. Authorities say the man tells police he knew the shooter and is cooperating with police. According to officials, the suspect has not been arrested, but police say this was a targeted shooting and the public is not in danger. Officials say they want to be clear in stating that this DID NOT happen at John Harris High School, but in the area across the street. The investigation is ongoing according to police.

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Vote counting continues in the race for the GOP primary results for the U.S. Senate seat. Dr. Mehmet Oz and former hedge fund CEO David McCormick are still in a gray area for being declared the winner as mail-in, provisional, overseas, and military absentee ballots for the Republican nomination are still being tabulated. The results are all but certain to go to a mandatory recount, with the candidates separated by just .1%.

(Harrisburg, PA) -- A Dauphin County jury deliberated less than a couple of hours Thursday in rendering a guilty jury verdict for Dylan Reeves. He had claimed he was high on excessive quantities of the cold medicine Mucinex when he stabbed 21-year-old Daniel Kelly more than a dozen times in 2018. The jury believed instead that Reeves was in control of his actions enough to plan the stabbing and found him guilty of first-degree murder. The mandatory minimum sentence for that verdict is life in prison.

(Landover, MD) -- The Washington Commanders have signed Penn State wide receiver Jahan Dotson to his rookie contract. The Washington Post reports the deal is a four-year contract worth roughly 15 million dollars. Dotson was highly recruited coming out of the 2018 class from Nazareth High. He graduated from Penn State in May of this year with a degree in telecommunications.

(Harrisburg, PA) -- The state's acting secretary of health is promoting a new, COVID Safe Summer Vaccination event. Speaking in Harrisburg Thursday, Dr. Denise Johnson says even though more people are outside in warmer temperatures, COVID cases have not decreased. She says the new trend is due to new, highly infective Omicron variants of the virus. In April there were an average of roughly 1,300 new cases per day. But nearly 4,000 new cases have been recorded for May, so far.

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Governor Tom Wolf is touting the Biden Administration's $45 billion 'Internet for All' initiative. The governor says the state is ready to send out more than $100 million in federal funds to provide high-speed internet to Pennsylvanians. The U.S. Commerce department announced the initiative last Friday, that would provide reliable internet for everyone in America by the end of the decade. 

>>State Agriculture Awards Federal Specialty Crop Block Grants

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Some farmers who deal in specialty crops in Pennsylvania will soon receive money from federally sponsored programs. The grants are part of the federal Farm Bill and are awarded in a competitive process administered by the department. The 23 projects funded include those that will grow the state's agriculture industry by improving food safety, battling disease, pest, and climate threats, among other qualifications. Four growers in Dauphin county have received the block grants this year, totaling more than $400,000.

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Preparations are being made for a basketball tournament for non-professional athletes in Harrisburg. 'Hoop It Up Harrisburg Three by Three Street Fest" is billed as a single-day basketball tournament on City Island. The event, which is set for Saturday, June 4th is open to youth, men, and women. Prizes will be awarded to all winners, including a thousand dollars for the winners of the Champions of the 3×3 Pro Am. 

>>War in Ukraine Affecting Little League International Baseball 

(Williamsport, PA) - There are some changes in store for the Little League International baseball games for the Europe and Africa Region. League officials say the venue where the games ordinarily are played in Poland is being used to host a group of softball players and coaches seeking refuge from Ukraine. Because of that, officials say the Europe and Africa Region Tournament events will be relocated to the Netherlands and Italy. The Little League International and Junior league baseball games are headquartered in Williamsport.
