Thunderstorms, Power Outages Reported in Central PA

(Harrisburg) Several Power Outages have been reported around Central PA. Click Here is a list of areas and companies experiencing outages.

Keep freezers and refrigerators closed. Use a generator, but ONLY outdoors and away from windows. Do not use a gas stove or oven to heat your home. Disconnect appliances and electronics to avoid damage from electrical surges.

There are numerous Thunderstorm and Flash Flood Conditions expected throughout the evening.

STORMS/HEAT = WEATHER WATCH DAY:

It keeps getting hotter and more humid. Highs are in the mid-90's with a heat index or, "feels like" temperature around 104. A HEAT ADVISORY is in effect. Now we're also under a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH UNTIL 9PM for afternoon and evening thunderstorms that will be capable of heavy downpours.

TOMORROW: EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING/WEATHER WARN DAY:

The National Weather Service has already issued an Excessive Heat Warning for tomorrow. That means the forecast heat index will reach 105 or higher for 3 or more hours. That is DANGEROUS heat and a rare occurrence in Central PA that generally only happens a few times a year. Please take it easy in this excessive heat, if you have to be outdoors take frequent breaks, stay hydrated and find some shade.

The high heat and high humidity will finally ease over the weekend, and by Sunday our highs will be back down in to the mid 80's.

MORE THUNDERSTORM CHANCES:

Each day will offer the chance of some pop up afternoon thunderstorms. These Storms will be capable of producing some heavy downpours that could lead to localized areas of flash flooding. Stronger storms will develop by the end of the week to help break the heat wave.

TROPICAL STORM FRED:

Tropical Storm Fred is over the Dominican Republic with maximum sustained winds of 45mph. It will be impacting the Dominican Republic and Haiti today and then Cuba tomorrow and Friday. By the weekend it will likely be in the Gulf of Mexico and potentially impacting the Florida Gulf Coast.
