Harrisburg, PA (CBS21) —Governor Wolf announced Wednesday that he has tested positive for COVID-19. First Lady Frances Wolf has been tested and is awaiting results.
Following the release, top Democrats in the commonwealth say more mitigation efforts cannot hurt.
“Knowing what’s been projected for later this year, and even the number of deaths for example into March, I think some additional mitigation efforts are appropriate at this point in time,” said Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa. “I think we are at a point in time where we need to take some additional steps, maybe just for a short period of time to sort of pause and get folks to recognize that this is a serious virus and we have to treat it as such.”
The Wolf Administration issued a reminder that said no one is immune from COVID-19. The governor tested positive for coronavirus during a routine swab on Tuesday and is now at home in isolation. He says he is continuing to serve the commonwealth and will perform all his duties remotely.
“I just wish the governor well, and I hope he and Mrs. Wolf will be okay as they quarantine. And I think they’re going to continue to do the work as best they can,” said Sen. Costa.
One of his most important jobs right now is working to protect Pennsylvanians.
“I know that the administration and local municipal officials or county officials in parts of the state are looking at additional things.”
In the meantime, the governor appealed to residents and says following all precautions, as he has done is not a guarantee, but it is what we know to be vital to stopping the spread of the disease.
