Say anyong haseyo to Team USA.
The U.S. Olympic Committee announced the 242-member team heading for Pyeongchang for the 2018 Winter Olympics on Friday. It's the largest-ever team for any nation in the history of the Olympic Winter Games.
The team is made up of 107 women and 135 men who are competing in all 14 disciplines across 7 sports. America will contest 97 of the 102 medal events in Korea starting on February 7th at 11 p.m. Eastern time. Canada has the second-largest team in South Korea with more than 220 athletes competing.
“Once again, Team USA is among the largest teams to compete in the Olympic Winter Games, and we continue to see a spike in excellence from Americans competing in winter sports as the sport program expands to include more opportunities for our athletes,” said Alan Ashley, U.S. chef de mission and USOC chief of sport performance. “We are primed and ready for another strong showing from our athletes, who have made a long-time commitment to represent us as the best in the U.S. at these Games, and we look forward to cheering for each member of Team USA on the world’s greatest stage.”

Some thirty-one states are represented by the 242 athletes. Thirty-one of them hail from Colorado, with 22 coming from California, 19 from Minnesota, 18 from New York and 16 from Utah.
Park City produced the most Olympic athletes with eight people heading for South Korea, while Anchorage, Alaska came in second, boasting 7 members of Team USA.
Only one athlete was born in the 70's - ice hockey player Brian Gionta, who was born in 1979. The youngest team members is Vincent Zhou, a 17-year-old figure skater. Zhou is one of eight competitors who was born in the 2000s.
Three-quarters of Team USA have attended college with 87 schools being represented in PyeongChang. Of those, more than one-third competed collegiately at 48 different institutions, including hockey, bobsled and cross-country skiing.
The Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies are scheduled to be held at the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium in Pyeongchang, South Korea on February 9, 2018.
