Prison time for 'bible beating'

A Middletown woman is going to prison for beating her 13-year-old daughter.  Rhonda Shoffner pleaded guilty to punching, kicking and strangling the child because she could not recite her Bible verses. The victim told police her mother had been drunk for three days before the March incident.  Shoffner was sentenced to two-and-a-half-to-five years in prison on Wednesday.
