>>FDA Approves New Non-Opioid Pain Med
(Silver Spring, MD) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is approving a new non-opioid pain medication. The FDA approved Journavx on Thursday as a first-in-class non-opioid analgesic to treat acute pain in adults. The oral tablets offer an opportunity to "mitigate certain risks associated with using an opioid for pain" according to acting FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research director Jacqueline Corrigan-Curay. Tens of millions of Americans are prescribed opioids for pain each year, with over 80-thousand people dying alone from opioid usage in 2022. It will mark the first new painkiller approved in the US in almost 30 years.
