York City Council Plan Vote To Overturn Veto On Immigration Bill
(York, PA) -- The York City Council will attempt to override Mayor Michael Helfrich's veto of a bill meant to protect immigrants in the city. Bill 47 passed by the council last month would prohibit city employees from threatening or intimidating anyone based on their citizen or immigration status and prevent law enforcement from taking action based on a person's immigration status. Helfrich said he vetoed the bill out of concern it could threaten York's federal funding if it is classified as a "sanctuary city." The vote to override the veto is set for next Tuesday.
