Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey delivered his farewell speech to the Senate on Wednesday (December 18), marking the end of his 18-year tenure. Casey, a Democrat, expressed gratitude for his time in public service, describing it as "one of the greatest blessings" of his life. He emphasized his dedication to helping children, people with disabilities, and seniors during his career.
Casey, who lost his seat to Republican Dave McCormick in a close election, reflected on his achievements, including expanding high-speed internet access and creating tax credits for clean energy investments. He also highlighted his role in passing significant legislation like the Affordable Care Act and the Inflation Reduction Act.
Colleagues praised Casey for his humility and dedication. Senator John Fetterman described him as a mentor, while Senator Cory Booker contrasted Casey's workhorse nature with the glamour of Hollywood. Casey's departure marks the end of an era for Pennsylvania Democrats, who have relied on his leadership for nearly two decades.
Despite his defeat, Casey remains committed to serving Pennsylvanians. He hinted at a possible return to politics, saying, "Never say never." McCormick will be sworn in on January 3, taking over Casey's seat.
