Study Suggests Walking 7K Steps Daily Helps Reduce Depression Risk

(Undated) -- A new study out of Spain suggests that walking seven-thousand steps a day could help reduce the risk of depression. It's long been known that exercise improves mental health but this is the first study to look at step counts and a possible link between the two. Researchers looked at 33 studies of nearly 100-thousand people and found that those who walk seven-thousand steps a day are 31-percent less likely to be depressed. And the risk reduction benefit soared to 40-percent for walkers who do ten-thousand steps. The study is published in the medical journal JAMA Public Open.
