Harrisburg officials held a press conference on Wednesday (December 11) to address the recent kidnapping and sexual assault of a twelve-year-old girl. The incident occurred near Camp Curtin Academy on November 25, and has been described as a "heinous crime" by city leaders.
**Mayor Wanda Williams** emphasized the need for community collaboration to prevent such tragedies. "This young girl has endured unimaginable trauma, and we stand united in offering her every resource and measure of support available," she said. **Police Commissioner Tom Carter** and **Harrisburg School District Superintendent Dr. Benjamin Henry** joined the mayor to discuss new safety measures.
Dr. Henry announced that the school district is implementing enhanced security protocols to protect students both on and off campus. "We are putting protocols in place, and in the coming days, you all will see additional protocols we are putting in place," he stated. The district plans to create an advisory committee to work with the school police department.
The suspect, I Marr Finley, was arrested on December 4 and faces multiple felony charges, including rape of a child. He is currently held at Dauphin County Prison on a $250,000 bail.
Mayor Williams assured the public that the Harrisburg City Police are committed to consistent patrolling in school areas to ensure student safety. Family members of the victim, present at the press conference, questioned the delay in increased patrolling after the incident.
