Shoe Found In Sinkhole, Still No Sign Of Missing Woman

(Unity Township, PA) -- The search continues for a Pennsylvania woman who may have fallen into a sinkhole while looking for a cat on Monday evening. Emergency responders began searching for 64-year-old Elizabeth Pollard early Tuesday morning after finding her five-year-old granddaughter in her vehicle outside a restaurant in Unity Township, about 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The girl was ok, despite being in the car for 12 hours in below-freezing temperatures. Rescue workers said that a shoe was found about 25 feet down in the hole yesterday. The hole is connected to an old mine, according to officials. State Police Trooper Steve Limani says rescuers were able to get down into the mine yesterday evening but they have not found Pollard so far.

There's hope that Pollard could be alive underground in an air pocket as search efforts continue.
