Ford has announced that it will provide a free home charger and cover the installation costs for customers who buy or lease a Mustang Mach-E, Ford F-150 Lightning, or E-Transit. The offer, which applies to all purchases or leases made after October 1 and through the end of the year, is part of Ford's efforts to alleviate range anxiety and attract new customers to its electric vehicle (EV) lineup.
In addition to the free home charger, Ford is also providing its EV owners with an adapter to access Tesla's Superchargers as part of the BlueOval Charge Network. According to a survey conducted by Ford in mid-September, nearly 90% of customers are more likely to buy an EV if they can charge it at home. "Shoppers worry about range, charging and battery health,” said Martin Delonis, senior manager of strategy for model e, when speaking to the Detroit Free Press. “These aren’t concerns of owners. This tells us that there is a tremendous perception gap to bridge, and shoppers need help crossing it.”
The cost of this promotional offer has not been disclosed by Ford. However, Marin Gjaja, chief operating officer of Ford’s electric division, told Reuters that the company expects to "contain it in our existing financials." Ford is keen to boost sales of its electric vehicles, as the company anticipates a $5-5.5 billion loss for Ford Model e in 2024.
