Former Symphony Violinist Makes Court Appearance

Odin Rathnam, a former violinist with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, appeared in court yesterday on charges of sexually abusing a child. The 58-year-old musician is accused of abusing the victim, who was between the ages of six and nine at the time of the alleged incidents. The charges against Rathnam include the rape of a child and other sexual offenses, which reportedly took place over several years in multiple locations throughout Dauphin County and other areas of Pennsylvania between 2008 and 2019. The Violin Channel reports.

Rathnam, who was arrested in July, has been held without bail. Prosecutors have stated that the more than two dozen charges against him do not fully represent the actual number of alleged incidents.

Rathnam, a graduate of the Mannes College of Music and the Juilliard School, was a concertmaster of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra from 1991 through 2012. He also served as a violin instructor at Cleveland State University. Both institutions have stated that they will cooperate fully with law enforcement as part of their investigation.
