Cuba Coach Disappears After Little League World Series

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (WHP) — For the second year in a row, a coach for the Cuba team for the Little League World Series has stayed in the U.S. and not returned with his team back to the country.

Coach Carlos Cesar Martinez reportedly left the Little League International Complex during the competition on the night of Aug. 24 and did not return, according to officials with Little League International:

On the night of August 24 at the Little League Baseball World Series, Carlos J. César Martínez, a coach with the team from Santa Clara, Cuba, left the grounds of the Little League International Complex and did not return. Immediately upon learning of his departure, Little League International made all appropriate notifications and, most importantly, ensured that the Santa Clara Little League players and all remaining adult coaches were present and safe. On Monday, August 26, all remaining team members, coaches, and Cuban Baseball Federation officials arrived home safely in Santa Clara, and we look forward to Cuba’s continued participation in the Little League program for years to come.

Staff at the complex immediately notified everyone involved with the Santa Clara team and made sure that all players and coaches were present and safe.

All other team members, coaches, and Cuban Baseball Federation officials later returned home without Martinez on Aug. 26.

This is now the second year consecutive year that a coach with the team has mysteriously left the team and not returned, with a previous coach, Jose Perez, having disappeared during 2023's competition.
