>Seven More Farms To Be Preserved In Lancaster County

Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, is set to preserve seven more farms, totaling 652 acres. The move is part of a statewide investment of $9.9 million that will preserve 30 farms across 14 counties, covering a total of 2,654 acres. The preservation of these farms is made possible through $2 million in state funds, supplemented by an additional $540,000 from the county.

The farms that will be preserved in Lancaster County include Pattye Y. Barley’s 60-acre crop farm in Manor Township, Glenn C. and Helen M. Hershey’s 83-acre crop farm in Leacock Township, Gregory D. and Lafaye H. Musser’s 75-acre crop farm in Penn Township, Christian L. and L. Ruthy Petersheim’s 94-acre crop farm in Salisbury Township, Red Knob Farm's 112-acre crop farm in Fulton Township, Joel H. and Irene W. Rutt’s 150-acre crop and livestock farm in Rapho Township, and Ruby S. and David R. Stoltzfus, Jr.’s 78-acre crop farm in Salisbury Township.

The preservation of these farms means that the local government will own the development rights, ensuring that the land remains dedicated to farming. This brings the total preserved farmland in Lancaster County to over 120,000 acres. LancasterOnline reports that the county's landscape is a patchwork quilt of farmland, a characteristic that will be maintained through these preservation efforts.
