Man Dies After Kayaking Accident

A 44-year-old man from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, died in a kayaking incident on Swatara Creek in Lower Swatara Township last Thursday (June 13). The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission reported that the man appears to have suffered a medical event while kayaking. Although a life jacket was found on the boat, it was not being worn by the victim at the time of the incident.

The Dauphin County Coroner's office is conducting an autopsy scheduled for Tuesday (June 18) to determine the exact cause of death. The incident is still under investigation by local authorities.

In light of this tragic event, the Fish and Boat Commission is urging everyone heading out on the water this summer to wear a life vest. They emphasized that about 80% of people who die while boating are not wearing a life jacket, even if they are strong swimmers. The commission also reminded boaters to plan ahead by informing friends and family of their plans and checking the weather before heading out on the water.
