Penn Manor High School alumni, sisters Brooke and Emma DeBerdine, have been selected to represent the United States in the women's field hockey team at the Paris Olympics. The announcement was made by U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach David Passmore, who unveiled the 16-athlete roster for the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
The DeBerdine sisters are among nine players on the team who attended high school in Pennsylvania. The team is a mix of experienced players and young talent, with the DeBerdine sisters contributing to the midfield. The team is set to begin their quest for gold on July 27th.
"The full centralized group of 28 athletes have worked exceptionally hard this year and made the final selection difficult,” commented Passmore. “We have diligently reviewed video and performance analysis while choosing a group of athletes we feel can push for a quarterfinal berth in Paris.”(usafieldhockey.com)
The DeBerdine sisters, both graduates of the University of Maryland, have already made significant contributions to the U.S. team. For Brooke, the game against Japan in the semifinal of a last-chance-qualifying tournament in Ranchi, India, marked her 36th appearance with the U.S squad. Four athletes from Berks County, Pennsylvania, have been selected to represent the United States in the women's field hockey team at the Paris Olympics 2024. The team was announced by U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach David Passmore.
The selected athletes include Twin Valley graduates Ashley Hoffman and Kelee Lepage, Hamburg graduate Karlie Kisha, and Oley Valley graduate Phia Gladieux. Meredith Sholder, a graduate of Emmaus High School, was also named to the roster.
Hoffman, 27, has played for the national team since 2017 and played collegiately at the University of North Carolina. Lepage, 26, has played for the national team since 2020 and played collegiately at the University of Maryland. Kisha, 28, made her national team debut in 2020 and played collegiately at the University of Connecticut. Gladieux, 21, made her national team debut this year and played collegiately at Penn State.
The U.S. team will open the women’s competition and Pool B play against Argentina on Saturday, July 27. They will continue against Spain on Monday, July 29; Australia on Wednesday, July 31; Great Britain on Thursday, Aug. 1 and South Africa on Saturday, Aug. 3.
