Aldi Issues Cream Cheese Recall

Aldi, the Germany-based grocery chain, has issued a recall for several of its cream cheese products due to potential salmonella contamination. The recall affects eight-ounce portions of Happy Farms Whipped Cream Cheese Spread, Chive & Onion Cream Cheese Spread, Cream Cheese Spread, and Strawberry Cream Cheese Spread. These products were sold in Washington, DC and 28 states, with sell-by dates ranging from August 30 to September 15, 2024.

The recall was initiated in cooperation with Schreiber Foods, Inc., a third-party supplier. Aldi has advised customers who have purchased these products to either dispose of them or return them to their local store for a full refund.

"Aldi sincerely regrets the inconvenience and concern caused as a result of this recall," the company said in a statement.(^2^)

Salmonella can cause symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In severe cases, it can be fatal, especially for young children, the elderly, or those with weakened immune systems.(^1^)

This recall follows similar actions taken by regional grocery chains Hornbacher's, Hy-Vee, and Schnucks, which also recalled cream cheese supplied by Schreiber Foods. The supplier was alerted that a whey protein concentrate used in the cream cheese may have been tainted with salmonella.
