Demolition Started On Harrisburg Mall

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Demolition has begun on Harrisburg Mall in Swatara Township. Work began Thursday on the three-story building that once housed Macy's, which closed in 2020. The mall is expected to be completely gone in about a year. Developers say mass grading will be completed by late next year. The rebuild will be fashioned into a complex that will house single-story office and multi-use space. According to owner St. John Properties, the existing Bass Pro Shop and Applebee's will be the only storefronts to remain operational. The company also says the former Toys R Us building will be sold or leased.
