Bald Eagle Count Sets Record in Berks County
(Berks County, PA) -- Hawk Mountain's official autumn migration count has ended with a new all-time record for bald eagles. Officials say their bald eagle count was 619 for the season, with more than 15-thousand trekking birds recorded overall. A news release from the Berks County sanctuary also shows a total of 964 turkey vultures recorded for the season, which was the second highest count total for the species. Volunteers and staff have monitored the raptor migration at the sanctuary for nearly 90 years.
