Natural Gas Rates Could Rise Later This Year
(Harrisburg, PA) - Peoples Natural Gas says it'll likely raise rates for Pennsylvania customers later this year. The company has filed a request with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission that would amount to a 21-percent increase in monthly bills for some residential customers and an eight-percent hike for others. The request still needs state regulatory approval. Some industry experts say the idea is not likely to get the go-ahead, but Peoples says new rates would go into effect by the end of September, if they are approved. The company says it needs to boost revenue by 156-million-dollars a year to continue replacing old pipelines and investing in other parts of system.
