EPA Asks For Higher Water Quality Standards For Fish
(Harrisburg, PA) -- The EPA is asking for higher water quality standards for fish in the Delaware River. The federal agency says a stretch of the river that runs through urban areas of Philadelphia, South Jersey, and Wilmington is the only part of the waterway that isn't fully protective of aquatic life. The officials also say the river's oxygen levels are too low for endangered fish, such as the Atlantic Sturgeon. They reportedly don't meet the "fishable" goals outlined in the Clean Water Act.
