Mennonites Rally at Congressman Smucker's office to call for Peace in Israel
(Lancaster, PA) -- People of the Mennonite faith are demonstrating in Lancaster against the Israeli/Hamas war. Over a hundred people from about a dozen churches rallied Tuesday at the office of U.S. Congressman Lloyd Smucker demanding a ceasefire. Smucker was not there and didn't publicly comment after the rally. Alain Weaver, who attends a Mennonite church in Lancaster but used to live in Gaza, tells WHTM-TV that people from his denomination have been working with both Israelis and Palestinians for 75 years to bring peace to the area. He says the Mennonites aren't taking sides in the conflict, adding that they're simply calling for a ceasefire.
