State Officials Announce Milestone In Amount of Solar Capacity Produced
(Harrisburg, PA) -- Industry experts say the number of new solar projects being installed in Pennsylvania has grown by 160 percent. State officials said Tuesday that the commonwealth's Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards program has surpassed one gigawatt of solar energy. They say the current storage of installed solar generation in Pennsylvania is enough to power nearly 140- thousand homes -- the number of households in a city the size of Pittsburgh. Officials attribute the growth to small rooftop solar systems on homes and businesses. Those systems account for about two-thirds of the current capacity.
