State Schools to Gain More Flexibility in Attendance Requirements
(Harrisburg, PA) -- Governor Shapiro is expected to sign a bill soon that will give state school districts more flexibility in having shorter school weeks or longer days. The legislation would mandate that students meet an annual minimum of instructional time, which is currently set for 180 days or 900 hours at the elementary level and 990 hours at the secondary level. It also will let schools track students who learn remotely through hours of instruction, rather than days.
