Senate Education Committee Hears Public Comments on Proposed Educational Mandates

(Harrisburg, PA) --The Senate Education Committee is hearing from the public and about proposed educational mandates. Legislation to provide mandate relief for schools was introduced earlier this year but has not moved. The Senate Education Committee held a hearing on the issues in Allentown last week. Senate Bill 569 would reinstitute a mandate waiver initiative similar to a program that operated from 2000 to 2010. The bill is sponsored by Senator Jarrett Coleman and would allow public schools to apply to the Pennsylvania Department of Education for a waiver of many of the state-imposed mandates.
