State Sales-Tax Collections Are Down - Higher Interest Rates Could Be Culprit

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Pennsylvania sales-tax collections are a little over two-percent less than expected. State officials say this may be due, in part, to what the Department of Revenue describes as a particular weakness in purchases made at places like Home Depot and Lowes. The state officials aren't sure whether the lower sales taxes paid stem from consumers curbing spending -- or that there are fewer new homeowners who are wanting to do home improvements.
