>>Wolf Tries To Make Mask Case To Pennsylvanians

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Governor Tom Wolf is trying to make his case about the importance of masks to Pennsylvanians. In a news release Monday, Wolf cited a study in The Lancet funded by the World Health Organization that showed a possible large reduction in coronavirus infection risk, especially when combined with social distancing. He also pointed to a Texas A-and-M study that found that not wearing a face mask dramatically increases a person’s chances of being infected by coronavirus. Wolf added that study after study indicates the effectiveness of mask-wearing to stop the spread of COVID-19 and to keep the curve of cases flattened.

(Lower Paxton Twp., PA) -- An employee at a Lower Paxton Township nursing home is out of a job after being caught on video throwing a drink in the face of an elderly woman. The video reportedly shows the staffer at Colonial Park Care Center throwing what may have been a hot drink in the woman’s face followed with her scream. Police haven’t released the former employee’s name, but officials with the facility say they reported the incident to the state Department of Health and to Lower Paxton Township police.

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Officials with the Pennsylvania Department of Health are adding 450 new COVID-19 cases to the Commonwealth’s overall total. Monday’s announcement brings PA to 90,304 confirmed or possible cases since the start of the pandemic. One new death related to coronavirus complications was reported Monday, bringing the statewide death toll to 6,754.

>>York Man Dies After Hitting His Head While Body Surfing In Avalon, New Jersey

(Avalon, NJ) -- A 73-year-old man from York is dead after hitting his head while body surfing in Avalon, New Jersey last week. Ken Matthews, who had previously been an educator and band director for Central York Middle School, was hurt last Thursday near the 21st Street beach. It’s believed a large wave caused him to hit his head on the ground while he was body surfing.

>>West Manchester Township Fire Prompts Shelter-In-Place Order Monday

(West Manchester Twp., PA) -- First responders in West Manchester Township say a shelter-in-place order had to be issued Monday after a fire at a shed owned by Bricker’s French Fries. The shed was being leased by EAS Water Systems and was holding a chlorine-based chemical used for fracking. There were concerns about vapors from the chemical being released into the air. The order ended after about an hour and no injuries are reported.

>>Three Vehicles Hit By Gunfire In Lancaster Township Sunday

(Lancaster Twp., PA) -- Police are investigating after three vehicles were hit by gunfire in Lancaster Township over the weekend. It happened early Sunday morning along the 1,400-block of Newton Road, with police initially getting a call about what they call a large, disruptive party at a home nearby. It’s believed two people leaving the house as police arrived fired multiple rounds, with a handgun found at the scene one that was previously reported stolen in York. No one was hurt.

>>Busy Fourth Of July For Reading Police, Firefighters

(Reading, PA) -- Firefighters and police officers in Reading say they had a very busy Fourth of July. Police say they responded to 145 fireworks complaints on Saturday. In fact, police say they responded 684 fireworks-calls since the start of June. The fire chief said firefighters responded to eight fireworks-related calls. While most were small fires, the chief did add that crews had fireworks directed at them at times.
