The former deputy coroner of Carbon and Schuylkill counties is facing new charges of unlawful contact with a minor, statutory sexual assault, and more. When 60-year-old Edward Smith was arrested in September for soliciting sex from an undercover officer posing as a teenaged boy, pictures of a boy were found on his cellphone. Smith knew the boy who told investigators Smith had sexual contact with him starting when he was 14-years-old. Smith is being held at Luzerne County Prison with a preliminary hearing set for December 19th.
