A lost family cat has been mistakenly euthanized after being taken to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County. Officials at the league say they scanned the cat twice for a microchip but couldn't find it and euthanized the cat because it posed a hazard to employees. This is the second family pet euthanized by the shelter in the past five weeks. The employee who put the first cat down without permission no longer works at the shelter. The interim executive director says new rules will be put in place to prevent the problem from happening again.
