A bill to give Pennsylvania an official amphibian is on its way to the House. The Senate advanced legislation this week that would make the Eastern hellbender the official state amphibian of Pennsylvania. Hellbenders live in rivers and streams throughout the state but the population is declining because of pollution. The hellbender is the largest North American amphibian.
