The elimination of positions and a tax increase may be on the horizon as the Shippensburg Area School District tries to make up a more than one-and-a-half-million dollar budget deficit. The school board received five budget proposals for next school year during a meeting at the Shippensburg Area Middle School last night. Only one of the five proposals doesn't include eliminating positions, while four of the five include a tax increase. District officials say the budget deficit is mainly due to the rising costs of pensions.
