Auditor General offering to look at legislative books

State Auditor General Eugene DePasquale is trying to figure out why lawmakers are sitting on a 118-million-dollar surplus.  The fund is used to cover the cost of lawmakers' salaries, benefits and general expenses, but could also be useful for helping the state close its projected two-billion-dollar deficit.  DePasquale needs the Legislature's approval to review their expenses and some lawmakers say it would be an overreach for him to audit their accounts.
